Proposal Reflection

While writing the learning specialist/instructional designer proposal, the process has been very helpful. It has allowed me to look at the needs of my classroom and come up with a way to help support my students using technology. I have found that by using the smart board, iPads, Seesaw, and tying it all into my classroom management that I have found a great way to utilize technology.

There has been a challenge right in the beginning of the process. When I was looking for the needs of my classroom, I knew that it would be speech and social emotional. I already knew going into this that I don't use technology that much since my students are only three years old. Initially I wanted to find a balance to use technology in my classroom. I then realized I can use a smart board or the iPads for technology to help meet those needs. There was that small challenge of how much technology to use with young learners since they are only at school for 3 hours a day. During those 3 hours, an hour is used for breakfast/lunch or lunch/snack and then 30 minutes for specials. I came to the conclusion that twice a week during small group is appropriate for my students.

I am still excited about the topic of technology supporting speech and social emotional needs in my classroom. I think this is something that my students will respond to. My idea for my proposal is to use my classroom management to support social emotional and speech. I will use picture of my classroom management, which are called red choices and green choices. Red choices are choices we do not want them to make and green are the choices we want them to make. I will use these in an interactive google slides for students to sort. This will support speech because I will ask students about the pictures. I will model using words and short sentences. Social emotional will also be supported by students taking turns with other students. I think there are a lot of different things I can do now with technology in my classroom.

The most positive aspect of this journey is that I have realized that I can do a lot of different things with technology in my classroom. I think part of this comes from having all of my students in person this year, but also getting a smart board. Last year I only used it to screen cast the remote students so the in person student could see them. Now I can use a smart board for more interactive things with my students. We are also a couple months into school so students are more familiar with the rules and expectations and are ready for new things.

Overall, I like learning about different things that I can bring into my classroom. I have always felt very confident using technology. During student teaching and clinical hours in college, technology was never used in a preschool setting, so I never really used it with preschool. I had clinical hours in other grades from kindergarten through high school, so I liked using it with other grades. I also like teaching others about new things that I have tried and been successful with or that my students really enjoyed.
